What Veo 3.1 Fast is
Google sells Veo 3.1 in three versions. The full model (our "Quality") gives the most detail; Veo 3.1 Lite is the cheapest; Veo 3.1 Fast sits in the middle. Google positions Fast as the faster, cheaper option, and it generates the same kinds of clip: 4, 6 or 8 seconds, 16:9 or 9:16, with synchronized dialogue, sound effects and ambience if you switch audio on.
On imaginary.app, Fast calls Google's veo-3.1-fast-generate-001 model on Google Cloud. It is the model selected by default when you open the generator. We haven't published our own render-time measurements yet, so we won't quote a speed number here.
The speed and price trade-off
At the generator's default setting, an 8-second 1080p clip with audio, the three versions cost:
| Variant | Credits | Price range | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veo 3.1 Lite | 5 | $1.07–$1.25 | Drafts, testing prompts, volume |
| Veo 3.1 Fast | 10 | $2.13–$2.50 | Most finished social and b-roll clips |
| Veo 3.1 (Quality) | 26 | $5.55–$6.49 | Hero shots, dialogue, maximum detail |
A sensible workflow is to iterate on a prompt in Lite or Fast, then re-run the winner on Quality only if Fast isn't good enough. Our Lite vs Fast vs Quality comparison goes through the differences in detail.
Same prompt on Fast and Lite
Our generator's default prompt, a cartographer delivering a line of dialogue, appears in the gallery twice: once made on Fast and once on Lite. Both files have a sound track. Watch both to judge the gap for yourself:
Veo 3.1 Fast · 8 s · landscape · with sound
“A medium shot, historical adventure setting: Warm lamplight illuminates a cartographer in a cluttered study … Cartographer: "According to this old sea chart, the lost island isn't myth! …"”
An 8-second clip on this model costs 6–22 credits, depending on resolution and audio.

“A medium shot, historical adventure setting: Warm lamplight illuminates a cartographer in a cluttered study … Cartographer: "According to this old sea chart, the lost island isn't myth! …"”
An 8-second clip on this model costs 2–5 credits, depending on resolution and audio.

Veo 3.1 Fast credit costs
Credits cost $0.21–$0.25 each depending on the pack or plan. Every Fast combination:
| Resolution and audio | 4 seconds | 6 seconds | 8 seconds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p, no audio | 3 credits $0.64–$0.75 | 5 credits $1.07–$1.25 | 6 credits $1.28–$1.50 |
| 720p, with audio | 5 credits $1.07–$1.25 | 8 credits $1.71–$2.00 | 10 credits $2.13–$2.50 |
| 1080p, no audio | 3 credits $0.64–$0.75 | 5 credits $1.07–$1.25 | 6 credits $1.28–$1.50 |
| 1080p, with audio | 5 credits $1.07–$1.25 | 8 credits $1.71–$2.00 | 10 credits $2.13–$2.50 |
| 4K, no audio | 10 credits $2.13–$2.50 | 15 credits $3.20–$3.75 | 19 credits $4.05–$4.75 |
| 4K, with audio | 11 credits $2.35–$2.75 | 17 credits $3.63–$4.25 | 22 credits $4.69–$5.49 |
- 1080p costs no more than 720p on Fast. Unless you need smaller files, pick 1080p.
- Turning audio off cuts an 8-second 1080p clip from 10 to 6 credits; useful when you'll add music or voice-over in an editor anyway.
- The cheapest Fast clip is 4 seconds without audio: 3 credits.
- Image-to-video and first-and-last-frame cost the same as text-to-video.

Veo 3.1 Fast in 4K: what we offer, and what Google says
Our generator shows a 4K button when Fast is selected, and the API accepts "resolution": "4k" for veo3-fast. An 8-second 4K clip costs 19 credits silent or 22 with audio.
Honest price comparison: Google Cloud, Flow and us
Fast is where the gap between us and Google's raw list price is widest, so here it is in full:
| Clip | imaginary.app | Google Cloud list price | How many times Cloud list we cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 720p, with audio | 10 credits ($2.13–$2.50) | about $0.80 | 2.7–3.1× |
| 720p, no audio | 6 credits ($1.28–$1.50) | about $0.64 | 2.0–2.3× |
| 1080p, with audio | 10 credits ($2.13–$2.50) | about $0.96 | 2.2–2.6× |
| 1080p, no audio | 6 credits ($1.28–$1.50) | about $0.80 | 1.6–1.9× |
| 4K, with audio | 22 credits ($4.69–$5.49) | about $2.40 | 2.0–2.3× |
| 4K, no audio | 19 credits ($4.05–$4.75) | about $2.00 | 2.0–2.4× |
In Google Flow, a Fast video costs 20 Flow credits (10 on Ultra). At the value of a fully used Google AI Pro plan ($19.99/month) that is about $0.40 a video. Flow is cheaper if you already pay for it and use all your credits, but Fast leaves Flow on December 5, 2026.
| Google Flow | imaginary.app | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per video | 20 Flow credits (10 on Ultra) | 10 credits for an 8-second 720p clip with audio |
| Dollar value per video | $0.40 on Google AI Pro ($19.99/month); $0.10 on Google AI Ultra ($99.99/month) | $2.13–$2.50 |
| Commitment | Monthly subscription for paid credits | One-time packs or monthly plans |
| Availability | Google retires this model in Flow on December 5, 2026 | Available |
Who Fast on imaginary.app is for
- Creators who want Veo 3.1 Fast after December 5, 2026 without moving to Google Cloud.
- Low-volume users: a $9.99 one-time pack instead of a monthly plan whose credits don't roll over.
- Developers who were on the Gemini API preview models that shut down on October 22, 2026 and want a simple REST API with one key.
When to go elsewhere
- High volume on an existing Google Cloud account: Google's list price is lower per clip.
- You need reference images or clip extension, which we don't expose.
- You only need cheap drafts: Lite costs 5 credits for an 8-second 1080p clip with audio, and Google is keeping Lite in Flow.

Two lessons from these prompts. First, the anatomy prompt asks for a "10-12 second loopable clip", but every Veo 3.1 clip is at most 8 seconds, so write prompts that fit the length you select. Second, the timeline prompt pins down counts ("exactly four small circular dots … no more, no fewer"), which helps when the model tends to add extra elements. More patterns are in the Veo 3.1 prompting guide.
